José Tomás Labarca

I am an Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. My first book, Fragmented Policy Change, is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press in November 2026. My work has appeared in Socio-Economic Review, New Political Economy, The Political Quarterly, Latin American Research Review, and Revista Mexicana de Sociología, among other outlets. 

My research interests relate to economic sociology, historical sociology, political economy, the politics of public policy, knowledge and expertise, and state bureaucracies. In 2023, the Political Studies Association awarded my PhD with the Walter Bagehot Prize for the best dissertation in the field of government and public administration.
